Think Cancer- know the signs, get checked earlier
At Colliers Wood Surgery, we support early diagnosis of cancer. Many cancers are more treatable when found early, so it is important to seek medical advice if you notice symptoms that are unusual for you or that do not go away.
If you are worried about any symptoms, please contact the practice to arrange an appointment.
Possible Signs and Symptoms of Cancer
Many symptoms can have harmless causes, but you should speak to a GP if you experience symptoms that persist for three weeks or more, such as:
- Unexplained weight loss
- A lump or swelling anywhere in the body
- Persistent pain
- Blood in urine, stool, or when coughing
- Unusual bleeding or discharge
- Persistent cough or hoarseness
- Changes in bowel or bladder habits
- Difficulty swallowing
- Changes to a mole or skin lesion
- Persistent fatigue or unexplained tiredness

Cervical Screening (Smear Test)
For women and people with a cervix aged 25–64 to detect early cell changes that could lead to cervical cancer.

Breast Screening
